Soniya

Soniya was born on 18 August 2019 in Thithimathi, Kodagu district, the eldest of three children. Her parents, both daily-wage workers on a coffee estate, struggled to understand the rare condition she was born with — Fronto-Nasal Encephalocele, a swelling on her nasal bridge that slowly enlarged and pushed her eyes apart, affecting her vision. School became difficult; she faced bullying, frequent falls, and injuries.

Hope arrived during an Inga Health Foundation screening camp, where an RBSK doctor brought Soniya for evaluation. The medical team confirmed the swelling contained brain tissue and patiently counseled her initially hesitant parents, supported by the estate owner and Dr. Krishna Shama Rao. Reassured by the safety of modern surgery and the promise of free treatment at a well-equipped hospital, they agreed.

With support from the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation, Soniya underwent the required investigations and surgery successfully and is now recovering well. Her parents feel deep relief and gratitude, and IHF will continue to guide her toward a safer, confident future.
